Come Explore The SCV’s Old Town Newhall

Are you thinking about living in Santa Clarita but aren’t sure which area to settle? In this episode of SCV Connect, I’m going to show you Old Town Newhall, an amazing neighborhood right here in the SCV. We’ll look at everything from food and drink to home prices so you can decide if this area is right for you.

Food And Drink In Old Town Newhall

One of the reasons why Newhall is so popular is because of its restaurant and bar scene. One of my favorite spots, Old Town Junction, is known for its extensive list of fine wines and a whole chicken that’s deep-fried in duck fat. This is only one of the many restaurants down here in Newhall, and there are many more to pick from.

If you like barbecue, one option you’ll want to try is Smokehouse on Main. If you like diner food, you’ve got the Waystation Cafe. If you like Mexican, El Trocadero is right down the way. You can always find something delicious and refreshing to eat or drink here in Old Town Newhall.

Arts And Shopping

One of my favorite things about Old Town Newhall is its perfect blend of old historic charm and modern amenities. Eating and drinking isn’t the only thing to do here. Outside of all the shops and restaurants, we also have the Laemmle Theatre that was just built during the pandemic. It’s known for its art-house cinemas, independent films, and foreign films. You can also check out the Canyon Theatre Guild for a great show.

In addition to a thriving arts scene, Old Town Newhall also features great shopping—and it’s not just any kind of retail. Most are small businesses and charities, so you’re not going to see any big box stores, franchises, or chains down here in our community. For example, The Closet on Main is owned by a single mothers outreach—with all the proceeds go to help single parents raising kids in this community.

Cost Of Living

Now that you have an idea of what it’s like to hang out in Newhall in the Old Town area, maybe you’re wondering what it’s like in terms of cost of living. One great neighborhood in Newhall is called Happy Valley—and it’s called Happy Valley for a reason. This place is an amazing community.

This neighborhood includes an original model home that was built in 1958. It’s comprised mainly of mid to large size houses with more property than you see in homes that are being built today. The average cost for a single-family home in the area is roughly $1 million. While Happy Valley doesn’t have many, the average cost of a condo or townhome is $300,000 and up.

The average size of a home here is about 3,000 square feet with a property size of about 14,000 square feet. This is well over double what you’re seeing in most of the homes that are being built today. So if you’re looking for something in an established community with great trees, wonderful neighborhoods, and a little bit of charm, Happy Valley may be the place for you.

Enjoy The SCV Life

Old Town Newhall and Happy Valley are really warm and welcoming, and I certainly recommend checking both of them out. It’s one of the best places for estate-style living right here in the SCV.
